Of course, as we all know, September 1st is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day - hooray for orange cats! And what better way to immortalize your love of all things orange and fuzzy by stitching up a mini kitty.
So today I’m sharing a FREE ginger cat-inspired cross stitch pattern from us pet lovers here at Thread and Paw. It’s a super quick and easy pattern, perfect for an evening of (what I like to call) “couch crafting.”
GRAB YOUR FREE CROSS STITCH PATTERN
Ready to stitch?
Just print out the pattern below, grab your needle and thread then settle in with your favorite blanket. Tea is optional, but highly recommended.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Your FREE Thread and Paw cross stitch pattern
- Aida cloth (we used 11 count in the color Oatmeal)
- DMC thread (colors numbered on pattern)
- Cross stitch needle (size 20 or 22)
- 3 inch embroidery hoop
- Pair of scissors
- Optional: a cat in your lap
MAKE IT YOUR OWN!
What I love about cross stitching is that there’s room for you to be as creative as you like! If you’re getting in the holiday mood and want to stitch a spookier design you can switch to a black cat instead. Actually, feel free to switch up ANY of your thread colors!
You can even add your pet’s name under the design for even more personalization.
Just remember: cross stitching isn’t about making something perfect, it’s about making something by hand.
KEEP THE STITCH PAWTY GOING!
If you liked stitching along with this free pattern and have the itch to stitch you can find more paw-inspired cross stitch patterns from Thread and Paw.
We make easy cross stitch designs for crafters who love their pets (we get it, there is no such thing as a spoiled pet).
SHOW US YOUR STITCH!
I’d absolutely love to see what you make!
If you stitch this pattern, share a photo and tag @ThreadandPaw so we can see your finished project.
Peace, Love and Pet Paws,
